The Psychic Power of Plants

From the 20th to 22nd November, as part of the Liverpool Biennial, artist Ailie Rutherford introduced the guests at Metal to The Psychic Power of Plants.

By connecting to the plants the participants had a chance to explore the knowledge the plants might hold of the future, transforming it into a collection of surprising drawings.

Beautiful ConFusion

Jonathan Aasgaard, Metal's current artist in residence in Liverpool, led an amazing evening of music making last Thursday evening to bring Metal's series of events during The Biennial to a great close.
Jonathan invited along saxophonist Tom Challenger and composer Manuella Blackburn to perform at the station with him with him and the audience enjoyed a unique evening from three outstanding musicians.
Jonathan also gave a first performance of a new work composed for him by Stephen Pratt and the programme concluded with Tom and Jonathan performing to an underscore created by Manuella which she directed from her mobile phone sending a live score to Jonathan and Tom which they viewed from computer screens as they performed.

International Residency Exchange

This year we introduced two new awards as part of the Liverpool Art Prize 2012:  A Studio Residency award and a Shanghai Residency award.
Claire Weetman, winner of the International Residency, has just finished her one month stay in Shanghai where she spent time developing new work, meeting other artists, and working with students and lecturers at the Shanghai Art School.

Cafe Valise Launched!

Yesterday we launched our Cafe Valise at Leigh Community Centre. Despite the rain, we had lots of visitors coming to sample the menu in the afternoon, followed by a very busy opening of White Wall Space's exhibition of drawings by Leigh-based comedian Phill Jupitus.

Watch our video from the evening to see what our visitors said about Cafe Valise:
