New Office for Metal

We will soon be joined by three other organisations, 20 Stories High, Culturepool and The Public Arts officer from Merseytravel.

Turbines go up on Chalkwell Hall

The first of two vertical axis turbines were installed on the roof of Metal's Chalkwell Hall in Southend on Sea yesterday. The turbines manufactured in Germany and installed by local company, Solar Green will produce electricity to power the lights at Chalkwell Hall.
Edge Hill Archive Open Day

On Saturday 15 August Metal, Liverpool held an Open Day for our ongoing Edge Hill Archive project. This was the first opportunity the public had to see the newly rennovated spaces and we had a brilliant repsonse. We heard some great stories about how the station has functioned over the years and we learnt a lot more about the history of the spaces and surrounding area.
Dinner Discussion

Last night, Metal hosted a dinner discussion at Temporary Arts Project (TAP), a Metal project in partnership with Coexist. The previously empty Essex & Suffolk Water (ESW) building on North Road, Southend-on-Sea is being transformed into studios, gallery space and screening room, with a cluster of small arts organisations and individual artists taking up residency there. The White Bus will run the screening facility - showing art house films from their extensive 16mm and digital archive. Level 4 magazine will have new offices, whilst Co-exist will curate the Big and Small gallery spaces that will show the best of emerging artists from the region. The project is being supported by Essex & Suffolk Water, East of England Development Agency, Southend-on-Sea Borough Council and Arts Council England, East.
The dinner was held to meet and talk with artists, Harwood, Wright, Yokokoji who currently have their acclamed work 'Tantalum Memorial' on exhibition there.

Chalkwell Kitchen Garden

We began planting our new kitchen garden at Chalkwell Hall today, with the help of a number of neighbours and friends who have volunteered their time to help. Cucumbers, tomatoes, corguettes, lollo rosso, sweetcorn and potatoes will hopefully soon find their way into Chalkwell Hall to be served up at one of our dinner discussions.
If you would like to get involved as a volunteer, all are welcome from the expert gardener to the enthusiastic beginner! Please get in touch with Grace Acton on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
