The Guest House
The Guest House – a short film

Artist, Patrick Dineen spent four months working with twelve Kensington residents ranging from the age of 13 to 64 to create a script, stories and structure for a short film. Using the central metaphor of rooms within a house to chart the inner journey through life, the film explores the different experiences of the participants, their feelings, memories, ideas and emotions and transforms them into five intertwining stories.
The stories told deal with some challenging issues around health, addiction and grief. Each protagonist in the film arrives with a problem, each finds some sort of resolution in their room at The Guest House. Some stories are the true life experiences of the cast members, others are devised, all have been developed from the initial idea to the final edit by the cast and crew.
The final work was shown at the Metal House – we installed two ‘cinema’ rooms with large projections and 30 seats in each – and invited the Kensington community and contacts from the arts and the health communities across the North West to come and see the work.
The film has now been entered for a number of international festivals and will be shown in London and in Bogota, Colombia later this year.
