Artist Emily Steele is a freelance filmmaker, film curator and creative producer. Emily’s work primarily focuses on highlighting and exploring communities and underrepresented voices with a particular focus on Peterborough.
For her residency Emily would like to visually investigate weight, fatness and body image in a ‘post-covid’ world while exploring different ways of film making.
“Last year I often heard the phrase “Quarantine Fifteen” being used to describe how many people had gained weight over the first lockdown. A year later (and several lockdowns later), I’ve noticed in the media (such as proposed plans to add calories to restaurant menus) and amongst my peers a huge increase in poor self-image attributed to weight gain. This has been interesting to me as someone who has been fat for many years which begs me to ask the question- why am I your biggest fear?”
