Phil Sanger

Dance artist Phil Sanger’s practice is eclectic and has included Contemporary, Ballet, Martial Arts, Vaudaville, Tango, Butoh, spoken word and song to tell stories that are moving and entertaining often with a political slant to raise awareness of topics such as LGBTQ visibilty, male suicides or diversity.

He has had a successful international performance career (15 years) working in freelance and company roles as choreographer, dancer, actor, rehearsal director and mentor, performing works by the UK’s and Europe’s most established choreographers inc. Sir Kenneth MacMillan, Robert Cohan, Philip Taylor, Charlotte Vincent, Richard Alston, Aletta Collins, Rui Horta, Ivgi & Greben, Sharon Watson, Hofesh Schector, Kim Brandstrupt, Shobana Jeyasingh, Luca Silvestrini.

Whist in residence with Metal Phil will use the time as a period of research funded by the Northern School of Contemporary Dance. In collaboration with artist Kate Genever they will be embarking on a phenomenological study which combines the skills of four researchers with expertise in Dance, Theatre Making, Drawing, Mark Making, Design, Farming, Life Coaching, Psychotherapy and Anthropology with an intent to amalgamate cerebral therapeutic practices, artistic forms of expression and the humanities.
