Ryan Gilmartin is a working-class creative who shines a spotlight on forgotten places and people. He creates performance for both stage and screen, whilst also being a Video DJ. As a VJ he remixes and re-edits images and video in real-time using a range of controllers from MIDI pads to Playstation controllers. His work is sometimes high-tech (live AV performances) and other times lo-fi (a telephone system to connect strangers) but the through-line of his work is connection & relationships.
For this residency Ryan is developing an immersive video installation about a rogue astronaut who wants to disappear and his daughter who has forgotten about him. He’ll experiment by remixing live and archival footage from the 50’s & 60’s to create an audio-visual experience.
