Selena Chandler

Selena is an artist, maker and researcher inspired by social histories, focusing on the intertwining of the industrial and the rural that are a feature of her Essex homeland. She draws on domestic skills and rural crafts that are moving towards the edges of memory – the repetitions and cycles that make a life – to explore and examine themes relating to environment, labour and craft. Selena’s work is place based, using the foraged and the found, listening to local stories and  using hand work to explore past and present connections and concerns.

For this residency Selena will be exploring the history and making of a collection of straw work and corn dollies as a focus for building collaborations across art, craft and heritage practices, with a view to developing future partnerships and projects.
