BARCO is looking for a performer with disability based in the UK to join the ensemble for Dinis Machado’s new group dance work ‘MULTIFARIOUS’ that explores queer narratives, movement and bodies.

Following his move from Portugal to Sweden in 2012 during the southern economic crisis, artist and choreographer Machado became interested in the inequalities of access to work within dance. These observations and frustrations greatly inform his approach to casting, and how he builds the performance team for his work from an intersectional perspective crossing disability, ethnicity, gender and queer identities, and cultural critical thinking. This will not be a disability specific piece but it will build on its diverse team of dancers with different bodies and backgrounds and the way they inform their practices.

The weekly fee will be 525 GBP. Development, rehearsal and touring of the work will happen between Sweden, UK and Portugal with the partners:

Independent Dance London

Chisenhale London

Metal Peterborough

Backlit Nottingham

Weld Stockholm

Skogen Gothenburg

Vitlycke Tanum

Skillinge Teater

CDCE Évora

ZDB Lisbon

Selected applicants will be called for a 4 hour workshop audition in London between the 21nd and 24th April.
