Blind Field Shuttle – a performative walk with Carmen Papalia
Date: Sunday 20th October
Times: 2 – 3.30pm
Location: start at Chauffeurs Cottage, St Peters Rd, Peterborough, PE1 1YX
Papalia’s non-visual walk, Blind Field Shuttle, is an experience where groups of up to 50 participants can walk with the artist through urban and rural landscapes while closing their eyes. Each instance of Blind Field Shuttle is an invitation to explore the possibilities for learning and knowing that come available through the non-visual senses. An exercise in trust and perceptual mobility, the experience involves participants lining up behind Papalia, linking arms and shutting their eyes for the duration of a roughly hour long tour. After directing their focus towards the non-visual environment for a prolonged amount of time, participants begin to recognize looking as one of the many ways to engage with and interpret a place.
Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear for being outdoors in October. Hot drinks and refreshments will be available at the end of the walk.
