Peterborough Masterclass: Oral History practice for creatives

Opening: 02/06/18 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM | 10

Many artists, be it songwriters, dancers, visual artists and playwrights use unique life experiences and hidden histories of individuals as the starting point for their work. Whether used as verbatim or real life reference points they provide new insights and perspectives that may challenge our view of the past and present. The technique to gathering these stories without influencing how they are told is a specific skill.

Metal introduce the second in their Masterclass series – open to artists of all disciplines who may use oral history as part of their practice. This day course is organised in partnership with the British Library and the Oral History Society. It aims to be an informal and practical introduction to interviewing with an opportunity to handle recording equipment and discuss some of the issues around oral history, life stories and memory. No previous experience of oral history is required. The course is led by expert Cynthia Brown, one of the OHS/BL-accredited trainers.
