In preparation for the ‘Come As You Are’ theatre festival coming to Peterborough in November, Milk Presents are offering a 2 hour devising workshop for actors, writers and directors. The session considers gender beyond the binaries, and explores in a fun and accessible way what a post-gender utopia might look like.
Ladies, gentlemen and everyone beyond the binary, join Milk Presents in a practical workshop for curious artists. How can you define queer? How can you queer a space, an object or a body? What might a post-gender utopia look like? A world free from pinks and blues? If we didn’t have gender, how would his and hers happy meals work? Or toilets? Or onesies? When did you come out as straight? Who says that’s anyone’s business?! … Using devising techniques, theory and discussion, this practical workshop will explore the theories and techniques that underpin Milk Presents’ unique queer performance practice. This workshop is for anyone wanting to explore gender and queer performance.
Age recommendation 15+
The workshop will be delivered by company members of Milk Presents.
Milk Presents create spaces for exchange, celebration, entertainment and community – this might be in the form of theatre, workshops, club-nights, symposiums, book groups and hangouts. The theatre they make is a protest. It’s also a celebration and sometimes a bit of a messy one. You know that sticky, messed-up, extraordinary and ambiguous thing called gender? Their work is often about that. They shift perceptions of gender and identity through queer disruption, celebration and theatre. The original work is conscious and joyous. Queerness is big and complex and messy and… it’s yours, if you want it to be.
Milk Presents are an associate company of Derby Theatre and the Bush Theatre.
