This session will introduce the producing practices of Sally Rose and Xavier de Sousa, and explore what the role of a ‘producer’ can be, and how producer’s might collaborate with artists, and establish their own projects. We will investigate what being a producer entails, what the term means (or equates to in other contexts), and look at some case studies from Sally & Xav’s work with artists and organisations including; Rosana Cade, jamie lewis hadley, Dickie Beau, Sheila Ghelani, The Place, SPILL Festival, and their Producer Gathering network.
You can expect to hear about: working independently, supporting the work of artists across art forms and ways in which we can share experiences and knowledge. A practical session will look at the essential elements that are required for getting any project off the ground; we’ll share tools and tips for project planning, budgeting, developing work, and importantly communicating your project.
