Join us for a summer evening filled with the sounds of Darren Jones and the World Music Band, plus a performance from Nunhead Folk Circle, all within the beautiful setting of Chalkwell Park.
A series of acoustic sets peppered throughout the seven weeks by a whole host of talented musicians from Southend and further afield – bringing in turn soulful, uplifting and energising music to the park.
Join us as Darren performs a mixpot of original songs backed by the amazing talents of the world music band. The songs are catchy & colourful, influences from African rhythms, Cuban flavours & more.
The Nunhead Folk Circle
Redefining that worn out old term, folk. By blending African, Latin and Old English music with humour, rhythmical power and lyrical intrigue, they produce great songs that you will be singing the next day. Willard Gray creates the percussive drive over which Mike Dunne, on acoustic and upright bass, dances. Datsun Cherry produces a multitude of weird stringed instruments from an old suitcase, to add interest and variety. He also blows away on a mouth organ occasionally, while Matt Allin invents guitar lines that weave the sound of the NFC together. Matt, who also plays melodeon, helps Datsun out on the vocals, with occasional assistance from Mike, and their differing voices make for compelling harmonies.
NFC are an acoustic band with a natural sound. They are based in south east London but have played widely around the capital over past couple of years, developing an enthusiastic following in their own manor and looking to spread out beyond it. They have featured in countless pub gigs, local festivals, and turn up on radio in South London from time to time with interviews and live sessions.
The band are currently promoting their new CD, One Step Forward, which captures their acoustic sound and reflects the eclectic nature of the band.
