LISTEN TO THIS: A CELEBRATION OF POPULAR MUSIC
Metal are delighted to present a series of events centred on the importance of popular music to the formation of people's identities and sense of place, developed and presented by author Daryl Easlea and academic Andrew Branch.
Taking place in Chalkwell Hall, Southend on Sea, Listen To This will place a specific focus on the local in relation to national and international popular culture. Special guests will be in attendance at each event to discuss their work and, in some cases, perform.
Listen To This will reflect on past era-defining moments in popular music and culture with a local South-East Essex perspective. The evenings will culminate in a concert at Village Green 2012.

Metal Liverpool held our third Victorian Christmas at Edge Hill last Saturday 10th December. The day was a huge success and included performances from Formby Brass band, Platform Youth Theatre and The Suitcase Ensemble

Liverpool Art Prize 2012- Shortlist Announced
Local artists Alan Dunn, James Tomo, Robyn Woolston and The Drawing Paper’s Jon Barraclough and Mike Carney have been revealed as the shortlist for the 2012 Liverpool Art Prize, when it returns for its 5th successive year in 2012.
All four will exhibit their work at Metal, Liverpool, from Fri 27 April – Sat 9 June 2012
Coming up at Metal Liverpool
Metal Liverpool has the following events coming up before Christmas. . .
Next Wednesday 7th December 6-8pm we will be joined by artists Bob Moyler and Ailie Rutherford who will present a visual journey of their recent work, investigating the myth of the Leshy in Pocitelj and Sarajevo, Bosnia. Free with food and refreshments.
On Thursday 8th December 5:30 for 6pm join us for the launch of the book THE FREEMANS FAMILY STORE, Four generations of retailing on Liverpool's Wavertree Road. The book was written by Hazel Freeman from the Freeman family who have contributed to The Edge Hill Archive and published by Capsica - who are based at Metal, Edge Hill Station.

And Finally. . . on Saturday 10th December 12-4pm we will be holding our annual Victorian Christmas event. Join us for food and drink, mulled wine, Santa, Childrens Crafts, Face Painting, Stalls, Fancy Dress and more. The day also includes performances from a Brass Band and Platform Youth Theatre. The perfect event to get you in the festive mood.

SHOWFLAT - Launch of Publication
Last Thursday, 24 November, Metal have launched a new, limited edition publication, SHOWFLAT, to celebrate the culmination of a unique, year-long project with seven Southend artists who each created and installed an exhibition in their home and opened up for public viewing.
Each book is hand-finished, numbered and signed by all participating artists - Amy Frampton, Simon Fowler, Laura Keeble, Nastassja, Sophia and Kristina Simensky and Heidi Wigmore.

Songs from the Railway - Folk at Metal
Join us at Metal Liverpool THIS THURSDAY 17th November at 7:30pm for an evening of railway inspired folk songs and some nice hearty food.
This event is to coincide with the launch of the Edge Hill Archive project.
There will be music from Alun Parry, Molly's Boys and The Good Intentions.

Edge Hill Archive Launches
Metal launches the online Edge Hill Archive today - a two year, Heritage Lottery Funded project that has collected a mix of historical and personal photographs, facts, stories and information about Edge Hill Station. The Station is Metal's home in Liverpool and the oldest passenger railway station in the world.

On exhibition at the station is a wide range of memorabilia, films and books all relating to Edge Hill and its wider context in the history of the railways. There is also an exhibition of work by visual artist, James Quin, who has been resident with Metal for a year taking inspiration from the station and its unique atmosphere.
If you missed todays launch, the archive will be open for viewing Tues - Sat 10am - 12noon until 16 December or by prior appointment outside of those hours.
