Metal Residency Application Form
The Liverpool Art Prize is an annual competition for artists. Now in its fifth year, the prize is exhibited, administered and managed by Metal at Edge Hill Station.

The Art Prize: £2000 plus solo exhibition at Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool
The People’s Prize: £1000 selected by the audience during the exhibition of shortlisted artists
Metal Studio Residency Award: Supported studio space for period of 1 year at Edge Hill Station
Metal International Residency: To Shanghai in partnership with Shanghai Art School

About:
Metal are offering a year-long studio residency at Edge Hill Station in Liverpool. This recently renovated, Grade II listed, historic building is Metal’s Liverpool base and includes space for exhibition, events, meetings, cooking and administration. Edge Hill Station is the oldest passenger railway station in the world. Built in 1836 the space is an inspiring location for the creation of work. The Award includes:
- Studio space, rent-free rent one year (from 1 September – 31 August)
- Free services (elec / water / broadband wi-fi etc)
- Mentoring opportunities with Metal staff and associated artists
- £500 materials budget
- The loan of A/V equipment (where prior agreement with Metal is granted)
- Exposure on Metal’s website, e-newsletter, and through the Liverpool Art Prize marketing
- Support for project funding and the development of ideas, for a one year period
N.B. The Award does not include any accommodation/artistic fee/stipend/ out of pocket expenses.
The studio facilities include:
- Dimensions 5.5m x 4m. Note, the studio is one half of a shared, open plan space (dimensions of total space 8m x 5.5m).
- Heat/Light/Water
- Shared sink
- Desk and chair
- Access to Metal’s kitchen facilities
- Use of Metal’s office facilities
Who is Eligible to Apply:
The Award is open for application to visual artists living and working anywhere in the UK.
Criteria
Applicants must:
• be a committed visual artist with Fine Art BA Hons qualification or above. Recent graduates and final year students will be considered.
• have a demonstrable body of recent work
• be able to articulate in writing how the opportunity would inform/assist their practice
• be prepared to commit the time necessary to the studio space to fully utilise the opportunity
• be prepared to ensure that Edge Hill Station is respected and looked after during stay
• be prepared to make a contribution to Metal’s ongoing programme (e.g. artist’s talk / Liverpool Biennial activities or others)
• be prepared to make a contribution to Metal’s website (e.g. images / video podcast / written contribution)
How to Apply
Please complete the application form below, attaching:-
- an artist’s statement outlining your practice (no more than 300 words)
- a CV detailing education, experience, exhibitions to date etc
- a residency statement outlining how the opportunity will inform/assist your practice and how you will maximize the opportunity (no more than 500 words)
- 10 x images (dimensions: 72dpi / 472 pixel width) of recent work with an accompanying sheet detailing - title / material / year of creation / dimensions of each piece.

Selection Process
All applications are considered by the senior artistic team at Metal: Colette Bailey, Simon Poulter and Ian Brownbill. Applicants will be contacted with the outcome of applications by 30 May 2012.
