Throughout 2020, Metal Southend have enjoyed partnering with Blesma – a UK wide charity supporting veterans who have suffered life-changing loss of limb and sight. Blesma support a community of veterans and families through activities of all different kinds, including sports, music, art and travel.
Since lockdown began, we’ve been connecting artists with Blesma participants from across the UK, exploring creativity through short courses and practical workshops on Zoom.
Our courses so far include :
Animation with Taylor Jack Smith– Exploring hand-drawn animation techniques.
Drawing with Sam Humphries– A three week course of experimental drawing, self-portraiture and fast paced challenges.
Crafts with Philippa Stewart– Hand drawing Christmas cards and stitching gift tags / miniature festive jumpers for the tree.
Photography with Mark Massey– Capturing life in lockdown through 3 weeks of portraiture, photo-series and pets.
Below, you can see some of the images from our sessions, artworks created by the Blesma participants and a collaborative digital Zine reflecting our 3 week photography course.
