    Friday 26 September – Friday 12 December 2014

    To coincide with the first public outing of the full and official collection of memorabilia and artefacts of the legendary Canvey Island band, Dr Feelgood, Metal have created a temporary venue at Chalkwell Hall and are hosting a series of events with artists, musicians and film-makers that explore the social history of the electric guitar, its (arguably) golden years, the role of the guitar now and of course, the gender bias that permeates throughout its history.

  10. Village Green 2014

    Village Green 2014 art and music festival took place at Chalkwell Park on Saturday 12 July 11am-10pm. The fantastic line up of artists and musicians included Beth OrtonEddi Reader (Fairground Attraction); Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip; New York ska band, The Slackers; from London Man Like Me; Youth Club, Shlomo; Danny and the Champions of the Worlds; Kathryn Williams; Eight Rounds Rapid; and hot tips to go global in the very near future, The Hosts!

  11. Heritage Open Day At Edge Hill Station

    On Saturday 14th September Metal opened their doors to people from the local community and visitors interested in arts, heritage, local and railway history as part of Heritage Open Days.  One highlight of the day was the unveiling of our new community garden gate, designed by Robyn Woolston and pupils from local primary schools, as a memorial project to the Blitz attack of November 1940 on Durning Road. People could visit Metal’s community garden, as well as the chance to explore inside the buildings and meet the artists currently in residence in our studios.

  12. Anthem

    Anthem 2012  brought together a choir of 2000 school pupils and adults from across Southend to sing a specially commissioned new piece of choral music in celebration of the Olympic Torch visit to Southend on Friday 6th July 2012.

    Metal in partnership with Southend-on-Sea Borough Council (SoSBC), Southend Education Trust (SET) and Arts Council England (ACE) were working with 34 schools and 7 Community choirs to welcome the Olympic Torch to Southend.

    Metal have commissioned the music from the renowned, Essex based composer, Tolga Kashif.
