Culture LAB:  Essex Writers

Mon 19 – Fri 23 March 2018

As part of an exciting partnership with Essex Book Festival, Metal is transforming Chalkwell Hall in Southend-on-Sea into a pop-up Essex Writers House for the whole month of March 2018.

As part of the month, we are hosting a week long Culture LAB for up to ten Essex-based writers, working in any genre (fiction / non-fiction / poetry / playwright / screenwriter / graphic novels etc).

The LAB is designed to provide a peer-to-peer environment for an intensive period of development of your writing practice.  It will include:-

  • input from invited international speakers, Paavo Matsin (Estonia) and Agnieszka Studinska (Poland)
  • one-to-one advice from our facilitator for the week
  • support from the Metal creative team
  • time and space to write and develop specific aspects of a current project – or create a new piece of writing
  • working and social time with peers for discussion and exchange of ideas and practice.
  • opportunity to meet the Essex Book Festival team and create links for the future
  • opportunity to take part in a public reading as part of the 2018 Essex Book Festival (on the evening of Thursday 22 March)

Full details of the Criteria for Application and How to Apply can be found here.

Deadline for Submission:  Friday 16 February 2018
