Village Green: Next Generation is Metal’s festival that celebrates and supports the creative talents of young people in Southend.
The day-long event takes place the day before the main Village Green festival event and utilises the large-scale festival infrastructure that Metal put in place for headline acts the next day.
It provides the opportunity for Southend school pupils to perform music, theatre and spoken word on a number of different platforms – and attend workshops on film making, circus skills, drawing, comedy, journalism, back stage technical and a wide range of creative and cultural career paths.
Everything on the stages is performed by young people with the occasional help from a few very special guests! Last year, the internationally acclaimed, award-winning, Philadelphia Boys Choir from the US, were among these guests.
The audience is exclusively made up of young people too – from Southend schools – infant, junior and secondary. Around 30 schools from across the Borough take part, bringing over 6000 young people together to showcase their talent and learn new skills.
This is a unique opportunity for children to immerse themselves in music, art and culture.
The event is FREE to all that attend and all schools taking part. It is funded through Southend Music Education Hub.
Metal are constantly looking for exciting opportunities for young people to be inspired by the arts – as audience members or as artists themselves. Village Green: Next Generation is a great addition to our portfolio of work with young people.
