CALL FOR ARTISTS INTERESTED IN CREATING WORK FOR STATIONS ALONG THE HISTORIC LIVERPOOL AND MANCHESTER RAILWAY. DEADLINE: 23 February 2015
An invitation for expressions of interest to be involved in an artist development opportunity with Metal Liverpool. We would like to hear from artists working in any medium who would be interested in creating artwork, which responds to the site of Edge Hill Train Station and/or the Historic Liverpool and Manchester railway.
If you are interested and wish to be involved, please fill in and submit your form HERE
The call-out is part of a research and development residency activity being undertaken by photographic artist David Penny to investigate the potential of the train station and the rail network as exhibition space and/or a site for artistic intervention. The project was initiated as a response to modernisation taking place across the rail network in the North and more specifically the electrification of the line between Liverpool and Manchester. Ideas might take up, but are not limited to themes of modernisation, technological development, the history of passenger railways, importance of public mobility, and connectivity between cities and towns in the North.
Before making an application you are encouraged to research “The Northern Hub” http://www.networkrail.co.uk/improvements/northern-hub/: making rail travel “faster, cleaner and quieter” and “stimulating economic growth by improving connectivity between key towns and cities in the North”.
Up to 10 artists will be selected and invited to attend a development day on Saturday 11th April. Upon selection you will be asked spend some time creating an initial idea to present to the group for discussion and development. Following the workshop and visit to Edge Hill, artists will be asked to make a formalised proposal. Each proposal will be collated and designed as a bespoke and limited edition artist booklet, functioning as a document of your involvement within the project and used to further promote and develop a future funding application to support the realisation of the proposed works.
Selected artists will receive £150 fee (inclusive of travel) for their attendance at the development day and submission of a developed proposal. PLEASE NOTE: The project is currently at R&D phase and funding to fully realise proposed projects has not yet been sought.
