One of our residency artists, Sophie Neville, is working on a project called ‘Tawdry’ which explores how ideas of taste, perceptions and expectations have an effect on the way women are treated. She will be looking at the project through the lens of Saint Audrey, an Anglo Saxon saint whose name gives us the word ‘tawdry’.
As part of the project, Sophie will be holding focus groups where participants will discuss these topics, with their words inspiring designs for crochet lace artworks in the form of wearable neckpieces.
Alongside the focus groups, Sophie wants to open the opportunity to contribute to all who are interested. If any of the above topics interest you, then feel free to fill in the short questionnaire below. Anyone is welcome to contribute, however there is a particular interest in opinions from people who identify as female or femme / feminine-presenting.
Please note when Sophie uses the word ‘taste’, she’s referring to the ability to determine what is accepted/fashionable/high standard etc. – not the taste of food!
