Volunteering at Metal Southend

We are lucky and proud to have many wonderful people volunteering with us during our time in Southend on Sea so far. We could not run things without the fantastic support we receive from dedicated volunteers, and would like to offer the opportunity for others to become part of this exciting on-going process. There is always a chance to help out - from becoming one of our regular team to joining in for a single event.

Here are just a few things that have been said about people’s experiences along the way:
'I really enjoyed assisting at the event itself during the festival... preparing and setting up was equally exciting'
'Simply loved being involved'
'I felt truly welcomed by a wonderful group of people'
'Invaluable experience'
'I really got a good idea of event management and the teamwork needed to organise such events'
'I was given a lot of support by the whole team'

Village Green
Volunteers play a crucial role in helping Village Green run smoothly, look fantastic, and be a safe and enjoyable festival for everyone. Village Green 2012 will be another exciting and innovative, creative participatory day in the park for all ages, and we have many opportunities for several types of volunteering. Helping out at Metal can begin from as young as 14 years old, right through to seasoned professionals who have been in the business for years. This year we will need teams across all areas: events team,  back stage, media and documentation, stewarding, hospitality and runners.

Anthem
Metal’s ‘Anthem’ is the centrepiece of Southend on Sea’s Olympic Torch seaside welcoming ceremony. A mass-participatory choir, consisting of around 2,000 local young people and community choirs of all ages, celebrates with a specially commissioned piece of choral music; an original arrangement by one of the UK’s leading composers, platinum-selling Tolga Kashif.
To help make this event run smoothly and effectively we will require many committed and willing volunteers. This will be a unique, once in a lifetime opportunity to be involved in an Olympic local event. There will be a range of roles, some of which will be similar to those in Village Green. Anthem takes place on 6 July but there may be roles for volunteers in the days leading up to this event.

Metal’s other events
We hold many other types of occasions when we sometimes require others to lend a hand: evening events such as the popular Pecha Kucha nights; also Salon and Future Park, to name a few regulars. Helping at these events will again give an insight into this particular area of the creative industry, and you would be working very much as part of a small and dedicated team.
