About Pride: Metal has been working with the LGBTQIA+ community on Peterborough Pride 2018.

Running from Friday 29th June to Friday 6th July, this week long citywide celebration offers something for everyone. Peterborough PRIDE is about providing a platform for coming together, celebrating difference, being proud and showing support for our Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Asexual (LGBTQIA+) friends and family.

 

About Pride Reading Room: Set up like a reference library, it offers a host of books and films for, about and by LGBTQIA+ writers, filmmakers, artists and photographers. It includes novels, poetry, plays, history and theory books, artist monographs and anthologies and a really wide selection of queer world cinema. The reading room is open from 1st July – 6th July, 10am – 4pm and is based at Metal Chauffeurs Cottage.

 

Volunteer Role: PRIDE Reading Room Host
Role Description:

As a Reading Room Host you are part of the front of house team and will support the Metal staff looking after the Reading Room at Metal Chauffeurs Cottage. This will include offering books or materials to anyone who comes into the reading room and answering any questions that the public may have about Peterborough Pride.

Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for welcoming and providing information to visitors about Pride and the Reading room. Keeping the reading room clean and tidy, making refreshments for guests, recording audience numbers and comments and making sure that any books etc do not get damaged/ removed. Resetting TV for any films to be shown.

Skills and Qualities:

  •  Happy and confident to talk to the general public
  • Enthusiastic
  •  Interest in the theme or the festival as a whole
Reports to:

Administrator – Ruth Campbell

Length of time role needed: 

We are looking for volunteers to do 3 – 4 hour shifts across the week of 1st July – 6th July.

What we can offer you:

Expenses for food & or travel of up to £4 per half day. Training and support given by our experienced staff. Copious amount of tea and a good nose around the library!
