Robert Hesp is a performance artist and dancer. Originally hailing from Leeds, he moved south to complete a BA Hons degree at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. He performs and presents work both nationally and internationally, having shown work at venues including the V&A Museum and Roundhouse, as well as festivals such as Latitude and Buzzcut.
Hesp seeks to create a sense of volatility and disquiet with his performance work, aiming to both expose and vibrate the foundations of dominant ideas and systems. Recognising change as being the only constant, Hesp wants to use live performance to prompt re-examination and questioning, opening up a space for a more profound cultural awareness. Striving to achieve this, his work is often built around visceral or violent images, before being carefully interwoven with absurd humour and physicality. Hesp also frequently explores themes of and around queer identity, working to undermine archaic concepts of masculinity and gender.
