Ruth Jones

Much of Ruth’s work is concerned with feminist conceptions of care, the complexities of gender identity and experience and the particular modes in which women and other marginalised genders can occupy space and be visible within the arts; how making and viewing art can allow us to take space, share space and take care, in slower, generative and expansive ways that are not necessarily feasible through other mediums and methods or in everyday life.

For her residency with Metal, Ruth hopes to generate mutually trusting relationships with other Southend women (who experience life in marginalised bodies) to create new drawing works that take a gentle and caring approach to validating their experiences and their bodies.
