Zoe Murtagh

Zoe is a performance artist, writer and workshop facilitator based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Her work is vibrant and interactive, creating playful disruptions to everyday life. Inspired by music that makes you tingle, science lessons and Kate Bush’s dancing, she creates performances that are fun, insightful and may even put a little bit of fire in your belly. Her work explores themes of heritage, mental health, queerness/femininity/celebrity and the transience of ‘home’. She has recently created work for GIFT Festival, Curious Festival and New Writing North. She is an Associate Artist of ARC Stockton and is the current recipient of Northern Stage’s ‘Title Pending Award for New Theatre’

During the Time & Space residency at METAL, Zoe will be continuing to explore ideas generated during ‘Beyond Queerness’ a METAL LAB exploring themes of ecology through the mentorship of Scottee & Lois Weaver. Zoe will be working to explore ideas for a new collaborative work about climate and gender.
